I am a storyteller first when I am creating my art in whatever medium it may be. I love weddings because there is a lot that a couple has been through to get to the wedding day and when the big day comes so do the amazing emotions that people feel. I feel lucky in a sense that I get to tell their story and capture real life as it unfolds.

I have always had my hands on a camera since I was little.  My father always had a camera that me and my siblings could play with.  My first camera was a free film camera that came with a subscription to TIME magazine.  My dad taught me how to load the film, wind it, focus and shoot.  He even had the film developed at a convenient store close by and would show us the unfocused fuzzy shots that would come out. 

 

My first experiences with a video camera came from filming the church choir Christmas shows on a huge VHS Tape recorder.  I would stand at the back with it over my shoulder and play with the zoom. Later I would do funny videos with it when my friends came over and we always wanted to do music videos.  I started learning how to play the guitar when I was 14 years old and music over took my life. Through music I learned how to record and edit music on the computer.  The next step would be to edit video as well.  

 

I never really thought of shooting as a career but I always drawn toward documenting everything that I could. Until, my wedding where my father recorded a very rough video of the whole event that I decided to edit the video so it could be easier to watch.  I used a free editor called windows movie maker that would eventually teach me the basics of how to edit.  

 

The video captured my wedding day with precious memories of friends and family .  My father in law who passed away soon after the wedding was captured in a truly emotional moment where he told me that we were good friends. It's one of my most fond memories of him and I'm lucky enough to have it on video.  I am grateful that my father decided to capture the wedding because we never even thought about having a videographer at all.

The reason I am a videographer is because I want to capture those precious moments for other people.  Moments where families are combining and celebrating the love they have for each other.  Moments where two people combine to become one.

I had so much fun experiencing my wedding through the then standard definition lens that it has led me to pursue a career in shooting and editing video.  I am constantly learning new techniques and honing my art. When I get behind the lens everything falls away and time flies by. Every shoot is a new adventure and who knows where I may be next.
